For almost 3 years, prior to opening It's A Paws World, Dana (owner) volunteered at All Saints' food pantry. Every Tuesday night she was lucky to help by passing out milk and bags of groceries to each of the guests (dinner is also served to each of the guests every Tuesday). When she first volunteered, the number of people who came for dinner and groceries averaged around 175. Lately, All Saints' numbers have more than doubled.

Like any dog, I (Brussels) enjoy a good walk. But what do I do when mom owns one of my favorite places where I can eat and eat and eat.....well, I get bigger and bigger if I don't get my exercise! My walker, Sara Devore from Raise the Woof, is the best! She walks me with a bunch of my new doggie pals and helps me to keep in shape while mom works to bring home the bacon (rolls, that is)!

You can contact Sara at: 773-271-4534 or saradevore@hotmail.com

You can see Bruss, he's in dog heaven!

Our dog Brussels came from the Illinois Doberman Rescue organization. And like most adoption stories, it was chance that brought us together. I had met a Chicago Fireman who was looking for a dog for his firehouse. He said he and his fellow firemen were looking for a friendly dog who would be part of their firehouse family. I emailed a friend of mine who is part of the Illinois Doberman Rescue organization who sent back an email saying she had only one dog in mind: Brussels. Well, one look at that sweet face and I decided he wasn't going to any firehouse - I had to meet him. I always had it in my mind that we would end up adopting a small dog, and when I first met Bruss, I did think, oh my, he is a little "active". But he jumped up on the couch next to me and "demanded" I pet him under his armpit. That was that. He went home with us and has been demanding we tickle his armpits ever since.
I am grateful for this organization and for the many shelters out there that are able to do amazing work of rescue and adoption. Clicking on the below link (and then the purple button) will donate free food and care to the many shelters that help dogs just like Brussels.
Support Your Local Public School
McPherson Elementary School, located at Wolcott and Lawrence, is a pre-K through 8th grade Chicago Public School. Schools like McPherson can always use help from the community whether it may be through donations or volunteer help. If you are interested in helping kids in your neighborhood, there is a new organization made up of parents, teachers and community members called Friends of McPherson. The group's goal is to raise awareness of this awesome public school and raise money which will go to a new art room and new science laboratory. For more information, visit the group's website at:
